Jamun is the Java plum, the deep purple fruit of Syzygium cumini, a large tree common across India. The fruit is eaten; it is the seed that is used medicinally, dried and powdered.
Its traditional use is blood sugar, and jamun seed is one of the standard Ayurvedic inclusions for that, and here it sits alongside karela and punarnava. The research is limited and mostly preclinical.
