About

Biosash, Leh, and this site

Who makes these products, where they are made, and how this guide handles the difference between a traditional use and a proven one.

This site is a guide to sea buckthorn and a catalogue of what Biosash Business Pvt. Ltd. makes from it. Every product listed here is manufactured by Biosash and sold on biosash.com; this site does not sell anything itself, and every buy link goes to their store.

Where the berries come from, and where the products are made

These are two different places, and the label says so, so this page will too.

The fruit is sourced from Ladakh. Sea buckthorn grows wild across Ladakh, Lahaul-Spiti and the upper Himalaya, and the Ladakhi harvest is where Biosash's berries come from. Sea buckthorn grew there for as long as there are records but carried no industry until 2005, when the first processing plant for the berry in India opened at Leh — built by Biosash.

The products are manufactured in Himachal Pradesh, at Shiva Ecological in Sundernagar, Mandi, exclusively for Biosash Business Pvt. Ltd. That is the name and FSSAI licence printed on every pack, next to Biosash's own as the marketer.

Two licence numbers on a pack is the normal Indian arrangement and it is worth knowing how to read: one is whoever physically made the product, the other whoever puts their name on it. A pack showing only the second is the one to ask about.

What Biosash makes

The catalogue on this site covers 76 products: 50 taken internally and 26 applied to skin and hair. They fall into a few clear groups — the plain berry in its various forms, formulations that add Ayurvedic herbs for a particular area of health, and the topical range built on the berry oil.

The people behind it

Biosash was built by Arjun Khanna, a herbalist of more than thirty years who established the Leh plant in 2005 and is a member of the Seabuckthorn Association of India. His own site, arjunkhanna.in, covers that history in more detail.

About this site

The guide is written to be useful to someone deciding whether sea buckthorn is worth their money, which means saying where the evidence is weak as readily as where it is strong. Product descriptions, ingredient lists and nutrition panels are taken from Biosash's own published data and are attributed as the manufacturer's figures.

Nothing on this site is medical advice. Sea buckthorn products are foods and supplements, not medicines, and no product here is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication — particularly blood thinners — or managing a health condition, speak to a doctor before starting.
