Green tea is the unoxidised leaf of Camellia sinensis — the same plant as black tea, processed differently. Its catechins, principally EGCG, are what most research on it concerns.
The evidence base is large and the effects reported are generally small. Green tea also contains caffeine, which is worth knowing if a formulation containing it is taken in the evening.
